: John,

: My preference in home-brew cables is a twisted pair of RS test lead wire... amazing what a good looking (and sounding) cable you can make with a power drill!

: Alan

: : I want to make up my own interconnect cables using Intercomp RG58A/U, 20
: : awg stranded core & shielded, type CL2 50 ohm. Is this cable ok to use, will I get good sound quality from them? I believe it is silver coated copper strands.
: : Thanks....John

If you want to use coax cable, I have good results (for digital and analogue) using RG59, in particular one of Belden's digital audio coaxes, 1505A. The advice I had from a guy in Belden's R&D department was to use a cable with solid copper core conductor, rather than stranded or coated for "skin effect" reasons (something to do with what happens electrically at the interface between the copper and the coating). Anyhow the proof of the pudding is in the eating and the results that I have had have been most acceptable.
