Nigel,

Thanks for the tip on the Belden RG59u cable. It sounds like that specific cable (the 1505a) is the key and I hope it is reasonably flexible as well. BTW the skin effect has to do with the electron flow at the surface of the conductor..the higher the frequency, the increased flow at the surface of the strand and less flow inside the core of the wire strand. That is why some of the stranded cables use insulated strands in effort to keep the skin effect in a stranded cable continuous from one termination to the other.

I must say when you have a system good enough to hear the improvement in time coherency in a cable - you have a mighty good system. Or with someone I am thinking of, a wild imagination! Dang! My turntable antiskate is off... where did I put my dental floss?

: : John,

: : My preference in home-brew cables is a twisted pair of RS test lead wire... amazing what a good looking (and sounding) cable you can make with a power drill!

: : : I want to make up my own interconnect cables using Intercomp RG58A/U, 20
: : : awg stranded core & shielded, type CL2 50 ohm. Is this cable ok to use, will I get good sound quality from them? I believe it is silver coated copper strands.
: : : Thanks....John

: If you want to use coax cable, I have good results (for digital and analogue) using RG59, in particular one of Belden's digital audio coaxes, 1505A. The advice I had from a guy in Belden's R&D department was to use a cable with solid copper core conductor, rather than stranded or coated for "skin effect" reasons (something to do with what happens electrically at the interface between the copper and the coating). Anyhow the proof of the pudding is in the eating and the results that I have had have been most acceptable.
