Homemade Interconnects?

Here is my tip for twisting wires together. I take a pair of wires (could be a single length folded at the middle) and insert one end into a bench vice *very tightly*. By hand I pull the paid of straight wires smoothly to the other end, which I then insert the equal length ends into the chuck of a variable speed drill(again very tight). Then while pulling tightly I slowly start to twist the wires, keeping good tension on the wires as they twist. I "over-twist" them and hold the resulting twisted pair in place for a while - then release each end.

My favorite wire is RS test lead wire - and I use a multimeter to check the wires for proper termination when I install gold RCAs. I also use heat shrink tubing as a left and right ID marker on each end, which also helps keep the ends together.

Now you know my recipe!

: : My preference in home-brew cables is a twisted pair of RS test lead wire... amazing what a good looking (and sounding) cable you can make with a power drill!

: Alan,

: I assume you use the drill at a low speed to twist the wire. Care to elaborate? I've been poking around with the idea of making my own interconnects and I'd like to add your recipe to the things that I try.
