: I want to make up my own interconnect cables using Intercomp RG58A/U, 20
: awg stranded core & shielded, type CL2 50 ohm. Is this cable ok to use, will I get good sound quality from them? I believe it is silver coated copper strands.
: Thanks....John

I've been pleased with the interconnects I've made from Belden 8760. This cable is 18 ga. tinned copper (stranded) twisted pair with 100% foil shield and 20 ga. drain wire. Additionally, the cable capacitance is fairly low.

The "industrial" grey PVC jacket isn't very pretty and there are no filler strands in the cable so you can plainly see the outline of twisted conductors through the jacket.

I connected the conductors in a "balanced" configuration; one conductor to the center pin of each RCA plug, the other conductor to the shell of each RCA plug. The shield/drain wire is connected to ONLY one of the RCA plugs of each cable. The RCA plug with connection to shield should plug into the component providing the signal source.

These cables are used for some 30 ft. runs in my system and I get no hum, noise, or interference. I perceive no loss of fidelity when I compare to commercial interconnects. The price is right too, around $18-$20 for 100 ft. spool.
