While I absolutely agree that your classic Yamaha is worth being serviced and brought back to tip-top shape, I would suggest a dedicated AC-3 receiver - simply due to convenience. When you add a surround processor, the system operation becomes far more complex - as example you must set the volume control levels exactly to a given point and control the system volume by the processor. Yes it is a pain!

Yamaha still builds one of the better brands of receiver on the market - and I would recommend you look into one of their AC-3 equipped models. Then install the CR-2020 in a audio system and enjoy it for years to come.

: I bought this receiver over twenty years ago, and it is in need of repairs (rebuild?), but I have an attachment to it. How expensive or difficult would it be to add on a DD decoder? I also have a Yamaha AX830 amp and a Yamaha A-460 amp I could use to drive the surround speakers. Is this worthwhile?
