updating an 80's system
Posted by Colin Tucker [IP: 206.149.54.194] on March 29, 1999 at 21:44:47 I'm very pleased with my Maggie IIIa's powered by a Yamaha M-4 amp (with a little help from a Monitor Audio 200wpc sub), in a very large room. But this stuff isn't the newest. Things get a little too interesting when the volume goes up. If I was to replace the weakest link in this chain, what would go, and what would it be replaced with (planar /electrostatic speakers only, please). My brother says to find another M-4 and biamp the Maggies' passive crossover. My girlfriend says to turn down the volume and save the money. Wise counsel is appreciated.
