Alan,
I was thinking of doing the same thing! Just having bought a pair of ProAc's, I'm moving back toward some quality 2-channel. Want to add a good 2-ch amp and preamp, and later get a processor or a preamp with an analog bypass, like a Sony EP9ES or Sherwood 8090. thinking of replacing my old Pioneer table with a Rega or equal - will I really hear the difference between a top MM and a mid MC cartridge?
Tim

: Joey,

: I don't see a problem at all. The Goldring cartridge included with the MMF-2 is really good for backup duty, I'd figure in enough to your budget for a better cartridge for every-day use.

: The phono sections included in modern home theater receivers are poor at best. I strongly recommend investing in an external phono preamp. Creek, Rotel and Music Hall offer 3 examples of affordable preamps. Don't forget to search the used market as you might stumble into a used Musical Fidelity X-LP or a McCormack MPD. The X-LP is a bit laid back in character, but has both MM and MC inputs... the McCormack is a killer unit. Heck buy a used Adcom GFP-555 for the phono section and hide the thing! A used '555 goes for around $150 and the phono stage is better than the X-LP (speaking from experience).

: : I own a Yamaha RX-V592 receiver and the turntable input is Moving Magnet. Most of the turntables I want to buy are Moving Magnets like the Music Hall MMF-2 or the Pro-ject 1.2 How will I be able to use it on my receiver? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
