Exactly! Until we know what to measure, the bottom line is stereo equipment can only be rated on a pass/fail scale, there is no way to truly say (for example) speaker A is better than speaker B. All we can do is sum it up: Would you recommend this device to a friend, or not? Then it's up to your friend to listen to it and see if it fits their tastes.

And I disagree with the statement of "disrespect for controlled observations", they always evaluate gear to the same standard - Does it provide satisfaction to a person during prolonged listening. After all, that's its purpose.
