Dynakit rebuild Posted by Alan Maier[SysOp] on October 20, 1998 at 23:16:35: In Reply to: Dynakit rebuild posted by Craig Holden on October 19, 1998 at 17:21:34: Craig, After all the years go by, the old Dynaco amplfiers, tuners and preamplifiers still have a strong following and are high regarded. David Hafler knew what he was doing, and the graceful way in which those old Dynaco units have aged really demonstrates that. I am not familiar with the Stereo 30, possibly is it the Stereo 35 (little brother to the classic Stereo 70 tube amp) or possibly one of the solid state models - maybe the Stereo 80 or Stereo 300 with a number peeling problem as well? A couple thoughts come to mind. You could go with a restoration back to new (using modern capacitors of course) or scrap the originality and revamp the piece. I generally recommend a person restore a vintage item to orignal condition. For a restoration you can find a tech. who enjoys restorations and have him check the caps, transistors or tubes as the case may be and clean up the pots, switches, chassis and so on. For major mods, the folks at Audio by Van Alstine do major rework jobs on Dyna and Hafler gear and offer many upgrades. As Staurt has mentioned, I do enjoy restoring audio equipment as a hobby - but I don't want to place a "sales pitch" here! I am not alone of course and you might check out the newsgroup rec.audio.tech and see what response you receive. Meanwhile as much as I like to keep replies here on the forums, feel free to contact me via e-mail as well. I'll be glad to help in any way I can. Best regards, Alan Best of luck. : Hello-
