CD Transport, Which?

Using Mozilla/4.08 [en] (Win98; I ;Nav):

I have a Pioneer DV-414 DVD connected to an EAD Ovation PreAmp/Processor via a digital coax cable. For CDs, can I do better, under $600, than this DVD player as a transport? Perhaps I should wait for DVD-Audio?
