Drew,

I have been thinking of some options for you since you placed your post. I have a feeling the 200 x 2 watt part is going to hurt your budget - and since a lot more 100 watt area amps are on the used and new market, you might take the 3db cut in power and live with it.

Lately eBay prices have been high (goes in flaps). They might be a good source for a preamp - plenty of old Carvers pop up there, and an old C-1 would be just fine. Power amps are a bit stickier to find margains on. WebAuction has had a Carver (there is the "C" brand again) A220 for $220 as new stock.

Typically Adcom goes well for the seller, brands like Yamaha, Onkyo's Integra line or Sony ES do fair and can be bargains.

: Hi,
: I am interested in purchasing a 2 channel preamp and amp, no tuner, because I never listen to the radio. I am only 17, so my budget is rather small. I dont even know if I would be asking to much for how much I have in my budget. I was hoping I could get an amp that would be like 200 X 2 into 8 ohms. What would this likely set me back along with a preamp? Also, are there any good places on the web where people sell there used equipment?
