Loud Hum from Yamaha RX-V793

Using Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.0; Windows 98):

I have a problem with my Yamaha receiver. Whenever the balance switch is approximately in between the 11:00 o'clock to the 1:00 o'clock position, the receiver generates a loud low level hum even if the volume switch is set to off. I also experience the same problem when I activate the tone controls and increase the bass. I hope somebody out there can give me a hand in determining the cause of this HUM.
