Dynakit rebuild update- AVA

I phoned Van Alstine, and they don't rebuild Stereo 35's, only Stereo 70's. I think their main bag is doing mods, because they told me they didn't have a circuit board cut to fit it, and didn't seem really interested in rebuilding the one I have. Still, they were friendly, and it's a good contact to have if/when I get an ST-70 and want the mod/rebuild. They do have a (mod) kit to rebuild my PAS-3 pre-amp, though.

Any opinions on the PAS-3 pre-amps? Good, bad, or indifferent?
Had someone on the net tell me they thought they sounded "mushy" and "smokey".(?) I think if I were a piece of 30-year old tube equipment still running on my original tubes, I'd sound anyway I darn well pleased. ;-)
