Picking out a CDR machine

One machine that's quite popular amongst the rec.music.classical crowd is the HHb CDR-850, with a street price of about $1000. It's a pro machine, so it ignores SCMS, and can make full digital copies of any CD. It also has a lot of analog and digital input options, including balanced lines, AES/EBU, along with conventional consumer inputs. It can also handle CD-RWs. HHb is a very well-regarded British pro-audio company, but their equipment is readily available in the US as well.

It does have a sample rate convertor, which I am not sure is switched out of the signal path when copying from its digital inputs, and therefore may degrade the signal. Having a sample rate convertor will definitely screw up HDCD encoding. Anyway, I've included the link to it below.

FWIW, I use a PC to make CDs. The best drive you can get for that is a Plextor.
