Flat Speaker (signal not physical shape)

Posted by rabident [IP: 192.91.146.34] on September 28, 1999 at 14:39:30
Using Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows NT):

I've been looking at frequency response graphs of various speakers. I was suprised to see they are all far from flat. I would think an ideal speaker would be a speaker with a flat response. Is that not the case? Or is it just not possible to get a flat response from a speaker?

I know you're going to loose response as the speaker's drivers approach their physical limits, but most of the graphs I've seen look like the signal was passed through a comb filter.

Will someone enlighten me?
