Hi Alan,
Yeah, I figured that my speakers were bound for speaker heaven. I've been looking to get a Dolby Pro-Logic System (5.1 ready)actually because I watch a lot of VHS tapes and never knew until recently that VHS movies were encoded in multi-channel surround sound and that I had been missing out.
I thought DVD's only had multichannel sound. Anyhow, with DVD players still have compatibility problems I don't see it in my future too soon, hence the Pro-Logic system.

I live in an apartment so I'm not sure how many watts I should be looking at for speakers...
Also, buying a receiver and 5 speaker system seems a little out of my budget...
I've noticed a lot of high-end mini-systems are now home-theater ready as they have decoders and are complete with 5 speakers. Do you know how these compare with a dedicated receiver with 5 speakers?
Any input you might have would be appreciated!
Andy

: Andy,

: Well sadly I have bad news for you. Your speakers are indeed not in good shape. My recommendation is to replace them with new (or almost new) ones. Doing so is not all bad as while real wood finishes are rare, you don't have to buy as large of a system this time around. Speakers have improved a great deal since yours were new, so if you have become tired of those large boxes, you can live with smaller ones now and still have as good or better sound.

: I will be glad to help you with some suggestions if you give me an idea of a price (no, you don't have to spend a fortune!), the type of music you listen to and if you prefer floor standing or bookshelf speakers.

: Best regards,

: Alan
