On the Crown Website you can download their tech manuals in which they give advice about exactly your question. The link below will take you to a page for one of their amps. At the bottom of the page you can download the document. Basically they suggest shorting one of the balanced inputs to ground and driving the other input. This is very easily accomplished with a RCA to mono tip/ring adaptor plug available at Radio Shack. The sleeve of this plug shorts the ring on the input jack. By using only one half of the balanced inputs you will not be able to drive the amp to its maximum output, rather 3 dB less. In my case that's a good thing. The alternative of using a transformer will limit the low frequency so it's not a good option for home theater. One problem that might be introduced with the shorting method is the introduction of a ground loop as these amps often have three wire AC plugs with their input grounds metallically connected to their chassis. If there is an "input ground lift switch" that will solve the problem, otherwise you may have to play around with grounds on the system.
