Re: Cambridge Audio DAC Magic/Disc Magic

Posted by D McGregor [IP: 207.230.232.71] on October 12, 1999 at 22:29:42
Using Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows 98):

I recently upgraded from a Marantz 63SE CD player, to a Cambridge Audio DAC magic, with separate transport. The transport connects to the DAC with optical cables, and there is a "clock-locking" feature between the two. The DAC is connected to my Creek 4330SE with a Wireworld Atlantis II cable.

The speakers and cables remain the same (Vandersteen/Wireworld). Power supply/connections remain the same.

It's very much a "budget" audiophile system, but it is immensely pleasing to the ear, except....

There is an occassional sonic artifact that sounds like a small scratch on a CD would, except that there isn't a scratch on the CD. This artifact will occur at odd times, rather than with any consistency on any given CD. I only notice it once or twice per full-length CD. It doesn't appear to occur at the beginning, or near the end - it's pretty much random.

This was never an issue with the somewhat compressed sounding Marantz - what's your collective best guess?

TIA
